Flammkuchenhaus Ungstein

The Flammkuchenhaus Ungstein lies in the idyllic wine village of Ungstein, a district of Bad Dürkheim, set among the vines of the German Wine Route and not far from the renowned Herrenberg vineyard. The very approach leads through gently rolling vineyards that glow golden in late summer and open up the view all the way down to the Rhine plain. From the wood-fired oven come paper-thin, crispy tarte flambée in many variations — classic with bacon, onions and crème fraîche, with spicy Palatinate goat's cheese and honey, or sweet with apple and cinnamon to finish. Alongside, the surrounding winegrowers' Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris are poured, gladly as a lively wine spritzer from the Dubbeglas, as is simply part of the Palatinate. The snug inner courtyard amid the vineyards is especially sought-after on balmy summer evenings and a favourite stop for wine hikers on the Pfälzer Weinsteig or the Ungstein circular trail. The atmosphere is warm, convivial and entirely without frills — here it is all about good wine, crispy tarte flambée and the view into the vines. A relaxed, unfussy address for couples, groups of friends, hiking parties and anyone who wants to enjoy tarte flambée and Palatinate wine right at the source.
