Winzerstube Leistadt

The Winzerstube Leistadt lies in Bad Dürkheim's highest wine village at the foot of the Felsenberg, amid the vines high above the town and right where the slopes meet the dense Palatinate Forest. Leistadt is a dreamy winegrowing village where life still follows the rhythm of the harvest — and that down-to-earth cosiness shapes the tavern, too. Family-run, it serves honest Palatinate home cooking — Saumagen with sauerkraut and mash, grilled bratwurst, liver dumplings with potatoes and a hearty winegrower's platter with Handkäs, liver sausage and robust farmhouse bread. In autumn, around the grape harvest, onion tart and new wine gladly come to the table. The house pours wines from its own estate: dry Rieslings, Pinot Blanc and full-bodied Dornfelder from the Feuerberg, gladly as a cool spritzer in the typical Dubbeglas. The quiet garden with its sweeping view over the vineyards out to the Rhine plain — and on clear days as far as the Odenwald — is part of the village's special charm. The atmosphere is warm, personal and unpretentious, and conversation with the hosts and other guests comes easily. A cosy, authentic address for hikers on the Pfälzer Weinsteig, wine lovers, families and all who seek the real life of the German Wine Route.
