Ungstein
Ungstein is the tradition-steeped wine village of Bad Dürkheim, set right among the gently rolling vineyards of the German Wine Route. Above the village, the Roman Villa Weilberg with its reconstructed wine press tells of winemaking here some 2,000 years ago — an impressive open-air monument with views across the vineyards. Famous single sites such as the Ungsteiner Herrenberg and Honigsäckel yield robust Rieslings and Pinots, tasted straight from the grower in the courtyards. Between the wineries, cosy wine taverns invite you in for Saumagen, tarte flambée and a glass of wine spritzer. Trails lead through the vines up to the edge of the Palatinate Forest, and in late summer courtyard festivals turn the village into a cheerful wine stage. Anyone wanting to experience Palatinate wine culture at its most authentic will feel right at home in Ungstein.
