Landmarks in Bad Dürkheim
The Giant Wine Barrel, the graduation tower and more
No structure embodies Bad Dürkheim quite like the Dürkheim Giant Barrel – the largest wine barrel in the world, which today houses a rustic restaurant right in the heart of the spa and wine town. Just next to it, the graduation tower (Gradierbau), more than 300 metres long, sets a second landmark: salt brine trickles down its blackthorn walls and fills the air with a fine salty mist. For wide-reaching views, the Limburg monastery ruin and the nearby Hardenburg castle look out over the vineyards of the German Wine Route. Together these landmarks tell the compact story of a town shaped by wine, brine and the Palatinate Forest.
