Graduation Tower & Saltworks

The graduation tower in the spa park is one of the most impressive brine-graduation structures in the Palatinate and the centrepiece of Bad Dürkheim's spa operations. Saline brine trickles down walls of blackthorn brushwood several metres high, enriching the air with fine salt particles — a natural open-air inhalatorium reminiscent of the seaside. The trickling brine increases the evaporation surface, so the air around the structure becomes noticeably more humid, salty and free of pollen. Simply strolling slowly along the wall is considered beneficial for the respiratory tract and mucous membranes, especially on warm days. The historic saltworks also recall the long tradition of salt extraction that once made Bad Dürkheim a spa resort, with valuable salt boiled for centuries from the deep groundwater below. Together with the neighbouring brine inhalatorium and the paths through the spa park, the graduation tower makes for a relaxed, healthy walk right in the heart of the town.
