Wurstmarkt Square & Ferris Wheel

The Wurstmarkt square is the setting for the Dürkheim Wurstmarkt, the largest wine festival in the world, which each September around Saint Michael's Day draws hundreds of thousands of visitors. All year round, the striking Dürkheim Ferris wheel shapes the skyline of the site and can be seen from many points in the town. During the Wurstmarkt, the square turns into a huge festival with the famous Schubkärchler wine stands, where Palatinate winegrowers serve their Rieslings, Dornfelder and wine spritzers. The air fills with the aroma of Palatinate specialities such as Saumagen, sausages and Flammkuchen, while rides and festival tents add to the bustle. Outside the festival days, the wide square serves as an event and parking ground and forms the gateway to the Wine Route. Set right beside the Giant Barrel, the Wurstmarkt square is the pulsing centre of Bad Dürkheim's wine culture.
