District
Leistadt
Leistadt is the highest-lying district of Bad Dürkheim, nestled at around 250 metres against the sunny slopes of the Felsenberg. The Felsenberg-Berntal nature reserve, with its striking limestone crags, dry grasslands and rare orchids, ranks among the loveliest landscapes of the Mittelhaardt and is a popular hiking destination. Around the old village centre, the town's highest vineyard sites ripen mineral Rieslings that are poured in small winery courtyards. From the lookout points the view stretches far across the Rhine plain on clear days, all the way to the Odenwald and the Donnersberg. Walking trails through vines and open woodland, together with a soothing calm away from the tourist crowds, define the village's rural character. Anyone seeking fresh upland air, nature and honest Palatinate wine will find in Leistadt a rewarding, almost undiscovered destination.
